Children of Oz
"Will I ever see you again?" "You know you are coming with me, I am going to take you home" "Don't lie, please. I am old enough to know the difference" I gazed upon her eyes, so blue and piercing, like they could see tomorrow and I know they can. In front of her I am no more than a mortal man, not the beacon, not the coat of arms of an empire. "I keep my promises" "You are going to vanish, I will never see you again and that is against your will and best intentions" I try not to entertain her words, our last battle is yet upon us and I know she is not telling me my fate. I am blind to my own path. "Worry not. I will hold no grudge against you. I will find my own way home, there is a golden road.. a yellow path I must follow" The words escape me. I want to hold her so close in the thought I might abandon her, but she is resolute, icy in her sad innocence. She goes back inside and I'm expected at the temple. Tonight I dine with angels.
