Memory Lapse

Author: Textual Phoenix

I was just about to hang up when I heard dad pick up the phone. "Yeah?" His customary, eloquent greeting.

"Hi, dad. Catch you at a bad time?" I asked.

"Nah. Had to run downstairs to catch the phone. The one upstairs was dead."

"You up to anything?"

"Just surfing the net." Uh-oh. Always dangerous with him.

Before I could stop myself, I asked, "Find anything interesting?" I immediately cringed. I really didn't want to know, did I?

"Man, I found this totally amazing site! You're not going to believe this!" Oh, crap. Here it comes. "Did you know the moon landings were _faked_?!"

"Oh, Christ on a crutch, dad..."

"No, seriously, this guy figured it all out. Like how it had to be on a set because there's no stars in any picture..."

"Dad..."

"...and there's a shot of the flag waving in the wind..."

"Dad..."

"..and how there's no way they could have survived the Van Allen..."

"_DAD!_"

"What?"

"You were an _engineer_ for NASA on the _Apollo program!_"

"Well... Everyone makes mistakes... Right?"
