Elegy [poem]

Author: Ana Cristina

Black thoughts on a starless night with no clouds.

I lie awake, haunted by impressions

That darken my memory like thick shrouds.

Your infinite theater of expressions,

Your magnificent eyes, ocher and gold,

The strange way you used to enter a room

As if dancing, your voice bright and bold.

But Time reclaimed your passions much too soon,

And silence reigns where once your laugh did ring.

I sift through photographs of days long gone,

Too afraid of forgetting everything

To acknowledge I now must walk alone.

This my prayer for the years that remain:

That you and I should someday meet again.
