River Voices

Author: Match

I sat by the river casting my line into the deep blue waters and listened to the song of the summer birds. A small bumblebee, aimlessly buzzing along the riverbank happened to alight upon my shoulder. I have no bother with bees, and I had no plans to go anywhere on this lazy sunny day, so there I let her sit, the two of us watching the river meandering by. After a while, as I watched the fishing float gently bob in the water, I heard a quiet cough coming from my arm, and she began to speak to me.

"We know a secret, Elam" she said. "Would you like to hear it?"
