The Faerie, the Glashtyn and the Elf

Author: Susanna Tait

Twilight had come and so did they. The stars decreed the place of meeting and so, one by one, they all appeared, and the wise women gathered them around themselves as they waited for the last to arrive.

“Have ye nae got onything mare comfy for us tae plonk oorsel’s Wifey?” called out a chubby glashtyn, shifting himself into a more accommodating position on the ornamental toad-stool of 3 Grim Drive’s back garden, “and did ye ha’ tae make it in December? It’s flamin’ baltic oot here!”

The wise women shook their heads. Twilight came earlier in winter, the glashtyn knew this! The impudence of the childish goblin-like creature made their bunions ache and they liked an early night in the winter – spending more time in a cosy bed was all the old ladies cared for at this time of year. Not that they cared to mention it!
