Rock Bottom

Hard to believe July is over, The year over halfway gone. Seven months marked by Sharpie, Upon the cinder-block wall, drawn.

Surroundings noisy and dusty, The setting gray and drab. The populace and climate stormy, My bed a mat and a slab.

Try to shut out the voices so angry, Think about freedom again. Close my eyes and see sunshine, Focus on a smile, taste champagne.

Out there is rebirth, renewal, Beyond these bars a second chance. Only a few more months now, Time to make extensive plans.

Never again will I mess up royally, No more bad choices to make. This life is best spent in happiness, The world my oyster to take.
