Balancing Act

Dear generous soul Playing a vigorous role In the restoration of my heart, Can even all your strength endure All the responsibility of your part? Your influence Is thick and dense Balancing on a thin grey line, My conscience and resistance are fist to fist To fight to keep you out of mind. But the words you speak Sting and reek Like overused perfume, And now my mind is boggling As they dance around the room. The big danger here Is that I hear you clear Though I use force to not reply, And it’s a struggle to be so good When you have my type of mind. I hang by a rope I grab and grope To save myself from self-destruction, But safety is too far out of reach And I have far too little gumption. I hope and I pray I’ve the strength to wait See these promises through to the fin, Till I am sure that you can endure My heart can’t let you in.
