In Between Minds: A Dangerous Place

Author: Robert Quick

"That wasn't a test, was it?" I asked. "Not part of the training?"

Grandmother cleared her throat but answered with her mind instead. _Yes and no. That memory came from inside you. It is yours. The exercises helped uncover it but it's very real._

My heart fluttered with a surge of happiness- my daughter was truly alive and, by the look of things, doing well! Guilt rode behind that momentary joy as a realization struck. I must have abandoned my daughter during the Exodus. I had left her in _there_, left and forgotten her.

A thought hit me harder than any psychic attack I had ever suffered though and brought tears to my eyes.

I was a terrible mother.

Grandmother exhaled and patted my arm softly. _This is only the beginning, one key to a single door. I sense that there is much more where that came from. You have work ahead of you._

I shook my head violently. _No, I will not leave my daughter to those butchers! I escaped for a reason. If you won't help me-_ I paused shaking with anger, unable to continue.
