Floating Away

Author: J. Rein B.

An orange Earth was a sight I never thought I would see.

As boiling rock continued to appear and spread on the surface of my beautiful, once-blue home, I just floated in the command console, eyes fixed on the realtime screen, unable to make a sound. Beside me, the single online drone aboard the _Constance_ stayed just as motionless, its blinking sensors to my peripheral vision seeming to ask: _Am I dreaming? Is this really happening?_...

An overhead light started to beep, signaling an incoming transmission from the _Perpetual_. ~Hey Bob, are you getting what I'm getting?~ "I... I hope not. A few hours from now... I'm gonna wake up in my bed to a beautiful red sunrise, spend time with my wonderful kid, and... and I'm gonna watch a movie - one of those old sci-fi ones. Then I'll go back to sleep" ~Bob, stop joki~ I waved the conversation away. The drone, picking up the pheromones I guess I was releasing, propeled itself to another module. The end of the world.. It seems poetic to view it alone.
