Subway Rider
On the one hand, I was trying to drive an unfamiliar bike through a subway tunnel at breakneck speeds, and the sooner someone who knew what she was doing could take over, the better.
On the other hand, for her _to_ take over, I'd have to drive it by myself for—
"How long is this sync going to take?" I asked, watching the tunnel lamps whip by my head in a blur.
"About two minutes…give or take!" Nicky said. "The sooner I start, the sooner I'm done!"
I tried to find my balance on the bike, and hoped that my iPhone's mic wasn't sensitive enough to pick up my whimpering. It probably was. "Okay, do it."
The multi-function display dashboard flickered, and a tunnel map appeared with a green line tracing the way through it. "Just follow that route and you'll be okay. Handing off control…now."
We wobbled, but only a little bit. At this speed, keeping my balance while going straight was easy. I just hoped this route wasn't going to involve any tight turns.
Or for that matter, any turns at all.
