Awakening

Author: Max Azarcon

I don't know where I am, and I don't know how I got here. I opened my eyes, and I was blinded by the light radiating above me. I thought to myself, _Where am I_? I tried to stand, but my legs felt numb. Had I ever walked before? No... stupid question. Of course I've walked. I remember long hikes down the beach, strolls through the foothills, jogs along the riverside. So why can't I move?

As I lay there, lost in my confusion, not understanding the situation, I was stunned. A sudden wave of sensation washed over me. I could feel hot and cold, wet and dry. I could hear sounds all around me. The roar of engines, the call of gulls overhead; things so familiar, yet so distant within my memory. Questions darted through my mind. Realizations came to me like tidal waves over rocky shores. I have no idea who I am! Where did I come from? How did I get here? What's my purpose in this strange, shockingly familiar place? Why can't I remember these things that I should know? Perhaps my only hope is to go out and _live_.
