Rabbit

“It was surprisingly easy to get what I needed. Arnold didn’t even want cash. For a little Afghan opium, I could have all the weapons, uniforms and equipment I wanted. Incoming trucks are checked quite carefully. Nobody wants a bomb snuck in. But they are much more lax about checking the vehicles that leave.”

“So why did you send for me?” I asked.

“I needed a rabbit for the dogs to chase. And I wanted one that would give them a good run.”

“Well the Brotherhood almost killed this rabbit.” I said.

“There’s a world of difference between almost and did,” Michael smiled at me.

“No thanks to you.”

Michael reached both hands into his pockets. From one he withdrew a piece of paper, as he approached me.

“This is the number of a Cayman Islands bank account with your name on it. There is $200,000 dollars US deposited there.” As he stuffed the paper into my pocket, I felt a hypo hit my neck. The world began to spin.

“Why?” I whispered.

“Twenty million reasons” Michael said as the world grew dark.
