Fearless

Author: Ari Marx

I walk out with you, gloved hand in gloved hand, our wool fingers intertwining. There’s something ‘bout the way the world looks when the streets are covered in snow. There’s a glow off the snow as the streetlight’s bounce off the white. You pull me slowly towards you and I can see the snowflakes melting into your eyelashes. I’m fearless.

There’s no music, but we find ourselves dancing in the empty playground of our childhood. I used to be frightened of swings; being high up in the air with nothing under my feet. But you brush the snow off one of the seats and pull me into your lap and we’re swinging. With your arms wrapped around my waist, I’m fearless.

I look into your eyes as we reach for the stars high above us; I see your smile, and I find myself smiling, too. I put my ear to your chest and as I hear your heartbeat, I know I’d dance in a storm in my best dress if only for you. Fearless.

Suddenly your soft lips meet mine. It’s a first kiss, it’s flawless, it’s really something, and I’m fearless.
