The Strongest Motivator

A little human nature quiz for you--which is a stronger motivator: *guilt* or *bribery*? Whether it's self-imposed or used by someone else to manipulate, which one more often spurs someone to finish a task, no matter how detestable or unusual to them it is? Hopefully, this is abstract enough to fire the imagination and get some creative entries--be as abstract as you like; it doesn't even have to involve humans. (Fun fact: this is actually my first challenge on Ficly! I know, right? So interesting.)
